It’s that time of year again; time to rodeo!
The Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation Professional Rodeo will take place for the 19th year on Thursday, Aug. 4 through Saturday, Aug. 6, at the City of Foley Horse Arena. Cowboys and cowgirls are ready to demonstrate for the crowd bull riding, barrel racing, bareback riding, calf roping, team roping, steer wrestling, breakaway roping and much more.
This event, historically attracting over 9,000 spectators, is the main fundraiser and support of the Peer Helper programs in Baldwin County. This program has grown to provide training for over 100 teachers and counselors, support 50 Peer Helper programs in 47 schools — serving pre-K through 12th grade — and present the annual National Peer Program Conference and Peer Helper Jubilee.
“The Peer Helpers serve their fellow students as mentors, tutors, confidants and friends,” said Allison Faircloth, executive director of the Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation. “Having an encouraging person you can relate to and talk with is extremely valuable to anyone, especially our youth today. In addition to one-on-one support, Peer Helpers lead campus-wide campaigns including Red Ribbon Week activities, Kindness Week and internet safety.”
A new event this year for downtown Foley is the Rodeo Kick-Off Party. This year’s Kick-Off Party sponsor is Caldwell, Wenzel & Asthana, and will feature live music by Brittany Bell and catering by LA BBQ. All of the entertainment will take place at Bryant Bank in Foley and will begin at 5:30 p.m. Attendees must be at least 21 years old. Tickets for the Rodeo Kick-Off Party are $50 per person and include rodeo admission.
