Volunteer firefighters do more than fight fires

On Monday, Aug. 5, Firefighters from Marlow VFD were dispatched to a reported swimmer in distress after jumping from the Fish River Bridge on County Road 32. After a quick search from the bridge, the reported jumper was nowhere to be found. Additional Firefighters/Divers were requested from Bon Secour VFD and Magnolia Springs VFD. While searching the area using side scan sonar, it was relayed to the fire departments that the subject that jumped from the bridge had climbed back on a boat and went about his way. Personnel remained out in the water and utilized the time to do some additional dive training. The volunteer fire departments throughout Baldwin County do so much more than just respond to fires and this is just one of the many things they do.
Anyone interested in volunteering should contact your local volunteer fire department or come by on a training night. Below are phone numbers to the fire stations and the nights that the fire department does training.
