Lake Forest Yacht Club to reopen in June

DAPHNE – The Lake Forest Yacht Club will reopen to members in June and will now be open to the public later in the summer after months of renovations, Lake Forest members said.

Victoria Phelps, Lake Forest Property Owners Association liaison to the city of Daphne, told the City Council at their May 17 meeting that the extensive process to renovate the waterfront facility was almost complete.

“We embarked on an ambitious renovation of a 45-plus-year-old structure located in a flood plain,” Phelps said. “We have currently wrapped up the permanent work that began in December of last year. We are very close to receiving our final from the city for that permanent work.”

Phelps said city officials helped make the renovations possible.

“What I wanted to tell y’all tonight was what a pleasure it has been to coordinate this project with city staff and with the Building Department,” she said. “The building officials we have worked with have been tremendous and they have been very approachable because this has not been just a simple renovation. We hope to clear some additional final administrative hurdles as we’re getting to the end here in the next couple of weeks, and we look forward to opening this venue back and ridding the city of a blighted property.”

She said the general public as well as Lake Forest residents will now be able to use the Yacht Club.

“We hope that all of y’all will come and enjoy this property once it is reopened,” Phelps said. “Just like everybody else out there, we’re having difficulty hiring staff because of the additional funding that’s being provided by the government. Hopefully, that will end soon.”

A posting on the Lake Forest website said the Yacht Club will open to Lake Forest property owners on June 8. A grand opening for the public will be held in July, according to the website.

“And, this time when this venue does reopen, it is open to the public with the distinction that members of the public will just have to pay a $1 fee to their tab to be a member of the day,” Phelps said.

She said Lake Forest members will not have to pay the $1 fee and will receive discounts at the club.
