Two new shows opening this weekend

The wait for live theater performances in Baldwin County is over, with two new shows set to premiere this weekend.

Ever want to relive the days of radio shows, listening to a mystery as Sherlock Holmes searches for clues and culprits? Ever wonder what it would be like to watch a radio show live? Don’t miss your chance this weekend, as Bay Cities Improv comes to the Eastern Shore Art Center to perform “Radio Days: Sherlock Holmes, The Adventure of the Speckled Band.” The troupe will be recreating the mystery live on stage just as it would have been done in the 30’s, including the sound effects, music and story.

The performances will take place Friday and Saturday, July 16 - 17 at 7 p.m. The show is appropriate for the whole family. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Eastern Shore Art Center. Tickets can be purchased at Eventbrite, or visit https://esartcenter.org for more information.

The Eastern Shore isn’t the only place with live theater this weekend. New group Exit Stage Left out of Foley came on the scene earlier this year, and from July 16 - 18 the group will be performing “A Night of Laughs” at The Hotel Magnolia. The original show is written by C. Stefan Morrisette, director of Exit Stage Left and one of the founding members of the troupe. The show will be a “tribute to classic television and its characters,” and will feature tributes from shows airing through the 50s - 70s. Tributes will include “I Love Lucy,” “The Brady Bunch,” “All In The Family,” “Gunsmoke,” “Lone Ranger,” “Mary Tyler Moore,” “Laugh-In,” and more. Attendees will also receive a TV Dinner of meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, mixed vegetables and a dessert.

The ticket window has closed for “A Night of Laughs,” but that doesn’t mean you’ve missed your chance to see Exit Stage Left. “A Night of Laughs” is part of the troupe’s “Don’t Dream It, Be It!” season. Upcoming shows include “Drama Summer Camp” performing July 19 - 23 at Graham Creek Nature Preserve, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” from Oct. 28 - 30 at the Foley Civic Center, and “Sealed For Freshness” at the Foley Civic Center from Feb. 10 - 13, 2022.
