Admirals win 1A-3A state title

 HUNTSVILLE , Ala. – Bayside Academy took the lead in the first five minutes Friday in the AHSAA 30th State Soccer Championships Class 1A/3A Boys’ finals and the Admirals defense made it count.
     Junior Jackson Delaney took a feed from Evan Duckworth and drilled it into the net at just 4:32 into the match and state tourney MVP Luke Ferguson, an eighth grader, added a second goal seven minutes later as Bayside (21-1-1) beat Mars Hill Bible 3-0. Senior Lochlan Stacey got the final goal later in the first half to close out the scoring.
    The Panthers (20-2-0) got a big  Academy’s Lady Eagles have definitely built a soccer dynasty. Goalkeeper Lan Whiteside had  five saves to pace Mars Hill.
    The state title was the third for Bayside since 2016 and the second in a row after winning the 2019 title. Last year’s championships were not played since the season was cut short by the COVID 19 pandemic.

CLASS 1A/3A BOYS’ SEMIFINALS

Bayside Academy (20-1-2) was a 2-0 winner over St. Luke’s, in their 1A-3A boys’ semifinal. The Admirals (20-1-2) scored one goal in each half and limited St. Luke’s Episcopal (15-7-1) to only five shots on goal and rolled into the AHSAA Class 1A/3A boys’ state soccer finals Friday with a 2-0 win.  Junior Hugh Fellers scored one goal and Evan Duckworth got the other.  St. Luke’s goalkeeper Kevin Ori had nine saves in 15 shot attempts to keep the match close for the Wildcats. Admiral goalkeeper Blai Cebrina had two saves. Bayside outscored three playoff opponents 10-0 heading into the finals.
