BAY MINETTE, Ala. - Baldwin County High School’s Bailey Cox has signed a scholarship to play softball for Northwest Florida State College in Niceville, Fla.

At the signing at BCHS her teammates were able to watch as she officially signed the scholarship paperwork to become a Lady Raider.

Bailey has been a stand-out player for the Lady Tigers for six years, joining the team as a seventh grader. She also a star student and boasts a 3.8 GPA. She is a member of National Honor Society and four-year member of the BCHS volleyball team.

Bailey played second base for the Lady Tigers last season and will also play at shortstop for the coming season. She helped lead the BCHS Softball team to the 2019 6A State Tournament Elite 8 and a top 10 ranking in the State of Alabama. She also helped her father, Coach Anthony Cox, win his 400th career win and become the ASWA 6A Softball Coach of the Year last season.

Bailey led to the team in hitting with a .527 batting average (a school record), had 10 home runs, 57 RBIs, and 21 stolen bases. She was named to the Coastal Alabama All-Region Softball Team, All-County Softball Team and 1st team 6A All-State softball team.

This past summer, Bailey was selected to play in the North-South All-star Game for the South team. She had 3 hits, 1 RBI, and a stolen base to help lead the South team to its first-ever sweep of the North team.

“Bailey is a leader on and off the field. She is a quiet leader that leads by example but when she speaks her teammates listen. But mostly, she lets her play on the field speak for her. As her coach, she makes my job easy because she is coachable, dependable, a hard worker, and she comes ready to compete,” Coach Cox said of his daughter. “As her father, I couldn't be more proud of her not only on the softball field but because of the young lady that she has become with her grades, perfect attendance and especially her character.”

Assistant Coach Sabrina Brown echoed that sentiment. She said Bailey may be quiet, but she carries herself like a lion. “She is a lion on the field, she’s a lion in the classroom and she’s a lion in the halls” at BCHS.
