Betty Elma Woodward died on July 23rd, 2021, after a long battle with illness.

Betty Harrell was born September 27th, 1930, in Sopchoppy, Fla. She was the one of four children born to Elmer Harrell and Leomia Harrell. Raised in and around Tallahassee, Betty met her future husband at a school play, beginning a relationship that would last until his death in late 2018. Betty attended Florida State University after the war before marrying Tom Woodward on February 16th, 1952. All told they were married for over 66 years.

Betty moved around the country with Tom from Miami to New York before finally settling in Atlanta. Along the way they welcomed their two daughters, Susan (born in 1955) and Sally (born in 1958). While Tom flew planes for Eastern Airlines, Betty raised her two girls and became a part of the College Park community. She and Tom were both active members of the First Baptist Church of College Park.

After Tom retired from flying, he and Betty moved to Loxley, where again they would settle close to family and serve their community. They were active members of First Baptist Church of Silverhill where Betty taught Sunday School for decades.

Betty is survived by her daughters Susan (Rod) and Sally; grandchildren Clint (Brigitta), Emily (Ryan), Brittany (Nate), and Ellis (Caitlin); and great-children Maleigha, Jack, Joanna, Thomas, and Henrik.

Betty is remembered for her kindness and indefatigable spirit. She loved the Lord with all her heart. We know she is now in Heaven with her dear husband, Tom.

A graveside service was held on Sunday, July 25th, at 2 p.m., at Silverhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Betty’s honor to Silverhill Baptist Church.
