BAY MINETTE — The Bay Minette Fire Department recently celebrated the career of Capt. Jeremy McKissack as he entered retirement.

Earlier this year, McKissack was diagnosed with a brain tumor in the base of his brain stem and has been undergoing treatment ever since.

“It’s hard to see this stature of a firefighter leave the business so soon, as most know we were not expecting things to end this way,” said Fire Chief Mike Minchew.

During the ceremony, McKissack was presented a special plaque commemorating his years of service and in honor of all he has meant to the Bay Minette Fire Department.

“We celebrate his time in the service, his dedication to people all over Baldwin County for the past 20-plus years,” Minchew said. “We had lots of laughs and some of the opposites were also shed. We are also disappointed that we couldn't invite the world to celebrate with us. Thanks to all that could participate, provide and celebrate.”

McKissack is a 20-year veteran with the Bay Minette Fire Department and also worked part-time with Daphne Fire Department and as a volunteer firefighter with Rabun and Perdido.
