The Alabama Department of Transportation Canal Road project continues to pave the expanded south side of Canal Road between William Silvers Parkway and Oak Street. Fortunately, the work has not required the extended closure of the right lane with most work handled on the shoulder. Motorists are encouraged to slow down in the work zone. Once the southerly lane is complete, the entire roadway between Highway161 and Williams Silvers Parkway will be resurfaced. The contractor is scheduled to resurface the roadway starting April 5 through April 23 and crews will be working two weekends during that period. This portion of work will require lane closures. Baldwin County schools are on spring break this week so the public should expect significant traffic delays on Canal Road through the weekend. Motorists should plan accordingly. No construction is scheduled to occur Friday, April 23 through Sunday, April 25 due to the Mullet Toss weekend at Flora-Bama and Bama Coast Cruisin' car show at The Wharf. ALDOT and the contractor are working arduously to complete the project before the last day of school May 25. The construction schedule is tentative and subject to change due to weather conditions and unforeseen issues. |
