The City of Orange Beach unanimously approved $2.34 million in upgrades to the Performing Arts Center that is currently under construction on the Orange Beach Middle/High School campus during the June 2 Regular Council Meeting.
The approved upgrades include the addition of an orchestra pit on the main stage, a 7,000 square-foot addition including a black box theater that can seat up to 175 and a dance room.
The total cost of the Performing Arts Center is now $10.9 million with Baldwin County Schools contributing $1.41 million for the band and choir portion of the building.
The use agreement with the school board allows the city to use the Performing Arts Center outside of school hours for community-related performances and events.
This is not just for the kids. This is going to be for the parents and the community in a lot of different ways. Essentially, after school and weekends, it’s ours. That’s the way the contract reads,” Mayor Tony Kennon said.
Construction is expected to be complete in April 2021.
