BAY MINETTE, Ala.  -  Blake Clark has been appointed Recreation Director for the City of Bay Minette. The City Council unanimously approved the appointment at its Sept. 7 meeting.

Clark grew up in Bay Minette and went on to earn his Bachelors’ Degree in Exercise Science from Troy University in 2017. While an undergraduate, he worked part-time on weekends and during the summers for the Bay Minette Rec Department. Following his graduation, he was offered a full-time position. While working, he went on to complete his Masters’ Degree in Sports Management from the University of South Alabama.

“I grew up playing sports with the City of Bay Minette’s Rec leagues. It has always been my dream to help the community love and enjoy sports and recreation as I do,” he said. “I couldn’t imagine making this dream coming true in any other place than my hometown.”

Mayor Robert A. “Bob” Wills said the city is excited to have Blake take on this new role. “He has an extensive educational background in organizing and implementing recreational programs and he has already been working in our Recreation Department for the past eight years,” Wills said. “More importantly he is a Bay Minette person and brings lots of new ideas and enthusiasm to the position which will result in increased participation in our programs.”

The Rec Department currently oversees youth sports leagues for soccer, softball, football and basketball. The Department also oversees the municipal pool, pickleball and tennis courts and the soon-to-be completed sand volleyball courts. Clark said his goal is to work with the community and school sports programs to maximize these programs and to look for ways to provide additional recreational opportunities.
