Calling all makers!! Crafters and Amateur artists too! The 69th Baldwin County Fair is September 17-21 at the Robertsdale Coliseum and Fairgrounds in Robertsdale on Fairground Road. A little of the entrepreneurial spirit lives in all of us and has been our heritage in Baldwin County for generations as farmers, crafters and makers of all kinds.

My grandmother, Katie Devine, created quilts not only that kept her family warm in the winter, but they won awards at the Baldwin County Fair. No, she never sold one of these treasures, that I’m aware of, but the Fair gave a value to her handiwork outside of function and family admiration.

And now, fast forward many decades and the Baldwin County Fair is still a conduit for those that want to step outside of the “family” and dip their toe in the marketplace for their creations. The Fair has competitions for growers, makers and artists ages 6 and up.

Categories include Antiques, Art Handicrafts (functional art), Environmental Art and Collections, Horticulture & Agronomy, Photography, Scrapbooking and Sewing to Baking and Canning. There are over 300 classifications, with room for you.

Check out the many classifications at http://baldwincofair.com where you can also find the rules and an application. Enter your creation(s) TODAY! Yes, the Fair is accepting entries, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., starting today, Sept. 13, tomorrow, Sept. 14 and Monday, Sept. 16.

Is it time to step out of your comfort zone? Encourage a maker today! Use this entry as the first step of transforming your hobby to a business and I’ll be happy to help you. The fair is a great way to build your following, develop website content, expand the marketability of your art, and build your business skills.

As always there is no cost for the services of the Alabama SBDC, www.asbdc.org/register . While at the Fair stop by our exhibit and pick up some information. The 69th Baldwin County Fair is part of the ecosystem supporting the entrepreneurial culture in Baldwin County. See you there!
