The City of Orange Beach made the decision to remove some of the play structures at the Edward H. Carroll Sr. Kids Park.
The structures were found to be unsafe upon inspection with several areas of wood rot and support structure failure.
During the June 2 council meeting, Mayor Tony Kennon said, “we are going to demolish the current kids park and rebuild it but we have decided to move forward with it immediately because it’s in bad enough shape we can’t take a chance on someone being injured. We will come back with something nicer, bigger, better and newer.”
Once work is complete, the playground is expected to reopen with limited equipment available, such as the shaded pirate ship, Tot Lot and swings.
The city will be working toward replacing the entire playground with new equipment. Information will be shared in coming months about the improvements.
