Elizabeth Ward McKenzie, age 77, a resident of Fairhope AL, passed away Sunday August 30, 2020. She was born on December 6, 1942 to Jack David Ward and Bessie Phillips Ward. She graduated from Murphy High School in 1961. She received a BS in Education from the University of Montevallo and Masters from the University of South Alabama. She taught at Foley High School and Fairhope High School where she coached for many years. She retired in 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband Elroy McKenzie, Jr., daughter, Ashley Fleming; stepdaughter, Charlotta McKenzie and grandson, Justin McKenzie. She is survived by her daughter, Dawn (Derek) Thomas of Fairhope AL, son, John Fleming Jr. of Colorado Springs CO., sister, Jacqueline (Freddie) Pendarvis of Grand Bay AL; five stepchildren, Claire McKenzie of Spanish Fort AL, Kaye (Boyd) Langley of Fairhope AL, Monica (Bob) Pepper of Burkesville KY, Bubba (Daphne) Elroy McKenzie III of Fairhope AL, and Matthew (Cristie) McKenzie of Fairhope, AL; eleven grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, September 3, 2020, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church at 12:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 10:30 A.M. Interment will follow at McKenzie – Nolte Cemetery in Barnwell.
