Gulf Shores neighborhoods will receive three-way stops

Two Gulf Shores neighborhoods will soon receive requested three-way stops.

The Gulf Shores Engineering Department received two requests for the installation of a three-way stop in a residential neighborhood. City Engineer Mark Acreman presented the requests to the council.

The first request was a petition signed by the residents of West 12th Avenue requesting the city install a three-way stop at West First Street to address speeding. Acreman said engineers believed the additional stop signs are warranted as there has been an increase in thru traffic due to the recently completed access management improvements to Fort Morgan Road.

The second request came from the Craft Farms Property Owners Association requesting a three-way stop at the intersections of Blue Heron Drive and Cypress Lake Drive. The hope is to deter through traffic that is being routed through Craft Farms by navigational systems to avoid Highway 59 and Foley Beach Express traffic congestion. Acreman said engineers believed the stop signs are warranted as it would make the route less conducive to through traffic.

Police Chief Delmore reviewed the requests as well and agreed with the engineer’s recommendations. The council voted unanimously to suspend the rules to allow for immediate consideration of the ordinance amendment. The ordinance amendment was passed unanimously.

During the regular session, the council:

  • Approved the public assembly permit application for the Brett Robinson Coastal Alabama Triathlon Sept. 11.
  • Approved the public assembly permit application for the Movies at Meyer Park.
  • Approved the public assembly permit application for the Haunted Hustle 5K and Fun Run and Witches on Wheels bike ride Oct. 16.
  • Passed a resolution adopting the 2021 Baldwin County Hazard Mitigation Plan.
  • Passes a resolution supporting the Baldwin County Recycling Cooperative. The resolution authorizes city staff to work with Baldwin County and sister communities to conduct a feasibility study and develop a business plan for an effective and productive county-wide recycling cooperative.
  • Passed a resolution awarding the bid for drain and culvert cleaning to Smith Industrial Services on an as-needed basis not to exceed $88,450 for storm drain and culvert cleaning, with additional services of inlet cleaning at an hourly rate of $255 and video recording at an hourly rate of $200, as needed for a period of one year.
  • Passed an ordinance to amend the Tree Protection Ordinance. The update outlines the standards and submittal requirements for both multi-family/non-residential developments and single-family lots and clearly differentiates the two.
