Gulf State Park parking kiosks go live soon

Orange Beach City Officials working to secure free parking for residents

During the March 16 City Council Meeting, Mayor Tony Kennon spoke about the status of resident parking at the Gulf State Park parking areas.

A January press release from the Gulf State Park stated it was preparing to implement parking kiosks at four beach access points: Romar Beach, Cotton Bayou, Alabama Point and the Shell Lot. Park administration will continue discussions that began in fall 2020 with city officials to define the details of the parking plan.

The city has been working to get free parking for residents but delays at the state park have delayed the city’s efforts. Kennon said he is hopeful there will be a limited number of passes, but for residents only.

“We do feel like there is going to be a limited number of free passes for residents. Residents will not be property owners but someone that lives in Orange Beach, has an Orange Beach driver’s license and an Orange Beach address,” Kennon said. “I hope everybody understands that we got the best deal we could get, and I think it’s a fair deal for those that live here and planted their flag here, “said Kennon.

Residents will be limited to one pass per address based on driver’s license and address. Ken Grimes, City Administrator said the city will be putting out information on how to get a pass as soon as it has been finalized. The city is waiting for the park to finalize annual pass costs and discounts and how they will collect payments.
