Jimmy Wayne Junkins, age 76, a resident of Bon Secour, AL passed away on May 19, 2021 from complications following open heart surgery. He was born in Attalla, Alabama on July 22, 1944 and grew up in Hokes Bluff, Alabama. Jimmy graduated from Hokes Bluff High School continuing his education earning Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and History from the University of North Alabama (then known as Florence State College) and a Masters of Secondary Education from the University of Alabama. Jimmy earned the Eagle Scout rank as a member of the Boy Scout troop in Etowah County. Jimmy continued to be a lifetime supporter of the Boy Scout program. Jimmy was an active member of St Peter’s Episcopal Church. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, LD and Grace (Tedder) Junkins of Hokes Bluff, AL. He is survived by his loving wife, Leah (Bumpious) Junkins; two brothers, Bobby (Susie) Junkins of Gadsden, AL, Mike (Kelly) Junkins of Ft. Meyers, FL; three sisters, Judy Spears and Pam Junkins of Dothan AL, and Gina Otwell of Glencoe, AL; a daughter, Shawn (Les) Cole of Montgomery, AL; a son, Shane (Miriam) Junkins of Jacksonville, FL; three grandchildren, Noah Junkins, Jackson Cole and Mary Elizabeth Cole; and numerous loving and admiring nephews and nieces. Following graduation Jimmy had a passion for retail clothing and eventually established his own store, JJunkins, LTD, in Gadsden, Alabama. After marrying his wife Leah in 1985, they moved to Baldwin County, Alabama and Jimmy became a realtor for Meyer Real Estate. Remaining a successful realtor for 35 years until his passing, Meyer became a family to him. Jimmy had many interests throughout his life which he pursued with joy. He absolutely loved politics and followed state and local races closely. He enjoyed travel, including an annual trip to his favorite destination, Jamaica, where he made many friends throughout the years. A childhood love, which continued throughout his life, was collecting cowboy and Indian memorabilia of which the Lone Ranger was his favorite. Jimmy was a highly regarded mentor by many of his nephews and his grandsons and granddaughter. Jimmy’s biggest joy in life was spending time with his family, friends and dogs. He brought great joy to our lives as well as many others and will be greatly missed. The family would like to express gratitude to Jimmy’s nephew, Dr. Jason Junkins, for his assistance, love and support. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 22, 2pm at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Bon Secour, AL. Visitation will be from 12pm to 2pm at the church.
