Make memories at the Copper Kettle Cottage

FOLEY - If you’ve ever been to The Copper Kettle Tea Bar, then you’re no stranger to the cozy, intimate atmosphere where everyone is welcome. While the tea house is perfect for lunch, a cup of tea and a chat with friends, sisters and co-owners Sue Adams and Robin Peters were looking for a way to accommodate larger events. The solution? The brand-new Copper Kettle Cottage, sister location to the tea house.

“We needed this bigger space as we were growing to accommodate for large groups,” said Peters. “We just didn’t have space for that at the tea house, so this location is where we’ll host those. We’ll have paint nights, we’ve hosted a craft night, we have a book signing coming up, a cast party. We’ll have lots of fun things, and we’ll continue bringing more of our larger events over here.”

The Kettle crew have known for a while that, due to their growing events and larger parties, a second space was needed. The Cottage has been in the plans for nearly two years, with the biggest holdup being the wait for the perfect location to become available.

“We’re so excited about our new venture,” Adams said. “We’ve been planning for a couple of years, so it’s exciting that it finally came to fruition. It’s like you look for buildings, you look for buildings, you look for buildings, and then boom. And we’re so close to the original location and being right on Alston Street couldn’t have been more perfect, so I think that we waited long enough for it to be exactly what we needed.”

The Copper Kettle Cottage will be used both by the Copper Kettle staff as well as for individuals to rent. Large Kettle events, including craft nights, poetry readings, game nights, and large groups can now be hosted at the Cottage, while the original Copper Kettle will continue to operate during lunch and for smaller or outdoor events. Individuals can rent the Cottage for parties, get-togethers, group meetings, book clubs, writing clubs or art classes. There’s also a private room for meetings or private tea parties. Depending on the type of party or meeting, the price to rent The Cottage for three-hour blocks is between $75 - $150. If the location does well, more events and parties may be added in the future.

“We just really trust the instincts of the community to help us and guide us,” Peters said. “Both places are really Foley’s place. I know me and Sue run them and we’re responsible for them and we pay the bills, but neither location would have happened without the people who have just continuously offered us their services or donated things or supported us in different ways.”

And Foley’s place is correct when walking into The Cottage. Almost all the dishes were donated to the location by locals. The tables were handcrafted by a local business owner. The signs, from the welcome sign hanging outside to the chalkboard on the inside, were refurbished or handcrafted for The Cottage. The walls are lined with photos displaying years of events, and more importantly, the people who have helped make The Copper Kettle what it is today.

The original Copper Kettle location is currently closed for a spruce up, and the crew is operating at The Cottage throughout August. If you’re interested in taking a peek inside the new location, stop by at 202 West Myrtle Avenue, Foley. The original Copper Kettle is located at 106 North Chicago Street.
