FAIRHOPE - Author John Parham will be holding a book signing at Page & Palette (32 South Section Street, Fairhope) on Saturday, June 26 from 2 - 4 p.m. He will be signing copies of his first full-length novel, “The Binding: Volume One.”

Before joining the author community, Parham worked as a cherry picker, welder, and as the CEO of a technology company. After retiring, Parham and his wife, Mindy, decided it was time for a change of pace. They began travelling full time in their motor home with their two cats, Juno and Loco. Though he received his journalism degree 50 years ago, it wasn’t until he retired that Parham wrote his first novel, and, as it were, Juno gave him the inspiration behind the story.

“I was out walking on the beach in Destin, Florida one day, and I just randomly thought, ‘what if Juno had levitation powers? What if Juno had telepathy? What if Juno was 5,000 years old?’ And I started spinning the story around to get the meat for it, and I just went from there,” Parham said.

“The Binding: Volume One,” follows the lives of a multitude of diverse characters as they find themselves drawn together to do something most of them never imagined: save the world. Within the pages you’ll be introduced to 5,000-year-old telepathic cat Bastet, mysterious and kind Uncle Jim, down-on-his-luck Jerry, Voodoo Queen Mindy, and many more unforgettable characters.

Fans of sci-fi and fantasy novels who appreciate added comedy and adventure will find themselves drawn into the world Parham creates. Along with self-publishing “The Binding: Volume One,” he also self-published a book of short stories. His short story “Town That Dreaded Halloween” won a national writing contest and was selected to be read on the 2018 Halloween Special Edition AIARWIP podcast. Parham’s stories are filled with both facts and fiction, and many of the characters he creates are based off of real people (and cats) in his life.

“This is a story that has a lot of different elements in it, I think,” Parham said. “It’s a story of action, it’s a story with some love interests, it’s a story with quite a bit of humor, and a story with characters that I think as a reader, you’ll get involved with and invested in. You’ll get to care about what happens to them, and it makes you love the book because you’re invested with the characters.”
