The South Baldwin Literacy Council is partnering with the Family Medicine Residency Clinic at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center to support local children with free books during their well-child visits.
Dr. Autumn Walker and Dr. Carol Motley have been working with South Baldwin Literacy Council Director Mitchell Lee to develop the program of residents “prescribing” books to the children that come to the clinic.
“We are incredibly excited to have local doctors place emphasis on at-home reading as well as giving them a book to do so!” said Lee. “Dr. Motley is also sending first year residents to the South Baldwin Literacy Council as part of their community medicine rotation to get a firsthand look at local literacy issues. The physicians are quite enthusiastic to get our local children reading, which is very, very exciting to see.”
