Orange Beach man in custody after shots are fired at bar

A 24-year-old Orange Beach resident, Lonnie Blake Watkins is in custody after shots were fired at Mudbugs Bar on Gulf Shores Parkway.

On Feb. 27, at approximately 12:30 a.m., the Gulf Shores Police Department received multiple 911 calls after shots were fired at Mudbugs Bar. A preliminary investigation indicates that after a fight, Watkins fired several shots from a handgun before fleeing the bar in a vehicle.

A Gulf Shores Police K9 Handler detained Watkins a short distance from the scene. Detectives responded to the scene and Watkins was taken into custody.

Watkins had discarded the pistol after leaving the scene. Gulf Shores K9 Odin assisted detectives in locating the handgun used in the shooting during an evidence search along the route Watkins’ took after leaving the scene.

One person sustained non-life-threatening injuries from a bullet that ricochet off a vehicle at Mudbugs Bar. The individual was treated on the scene by medical personal.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with additional information is asked to contract Detective Leah Boone at 251-968-2564. Watkins was charged with:

Attempted assault first degree

Shooting into an occupied building

Reckless endangerment

No pistol permit

Public intoxication
