OWA to host two fireworks displays in July

FOLEY - OWA will be hosting not one but two fireworks displays this Fourth of July. The first show will take place on Friday, July 3 at 8:45 p.m. while the second show will be on Saturday, July 4 at 8:45 p.m. Both shows are timed to music that will be playing throughout The Park and Downtown OWA. People are encouraged to head out early to save their seat for the show.

Outside of the fireworks display, there will be tons of family-friendly activities to enjoy, photos with Rosie the Riveter and Uncle Sam, and live entertainment from the Boogie Woggie Trio on Saturday.

Prior to the official announcement from OWA, the City of Gulf Shores announced the cancellation of its annual show. While OWA believes they will see an influx of people heading from the beach to view the display, the decision for two shows was made before news came from Gulf Shores.

“OWA’s initial goal was to try to thin the crowds down by having two displays,” said Fire Chief Joey Darby, who has worked with OWA to approve the events. OWA officials said the idea was formed in hopes that the two shows would help keep people social distanced. OWA, Foley Fire Department, and Foley Police Department have worked closely together to ensure the two events will run smoothly.

The Park and Downtown OWA are both operating with a reduced capacity, and OWA officials state police presence will be posted at every entrance on July 3 and July 4 once the capacity is met. After that, guests will be encouraged to watch the fireworks display from their cars.
