ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — The city of Robertsdale is moving forward with plans to host its annual fireworks display on Saturday, July 4.

“We are going to proceed as normal, except that we are asking all residents to practice social distancing at the park,” said Mayor Charles Murphy at the Robertsdale City Council meeting on Monday, June 15.

The annual fireworks display will be held at dark on Saturday, July 4 at Garrett Park. Fireworks could start as early as 8:45 p.m., Murphy said, but will likely start around 9.

All city offices will be closed on Friday, July 3 in observance of the Independence Day holiday. Friday’s garbage route will be picked up on Thursday, July 2.

In other business June 15, the council voted to approve a service contract with the Baldwin County Child Advocacy Center, (CARE House), in the amount of $2,500 for the 2020-21 fiscal year.

Murphy said the city first contracted with CARE House in 2017, which was renewed in 2018, but the contact was not renewed in 2019.

Police Chief Brad Kendrick said CARE House, who’s employees are licensed and trained to provide resources and services to child victims of sexual abuse, has provided an invaluable resource for the Robertsdale Police Department in domestic violence investigations.

The council also voted to use two of the city’s free days Feb. 26 and 27 at the Baldwin County Coliseum for the Robertsdale Alumni Association’s 13th Annual Tea Party.

The event is held annual to raise money for scholarships for graduating seniors who have plans to attend college. Another fundraiser, the Annual Forks and Spoons Tasting Spree is held annually in October at the PZK Hall in Robertsdale.

The 2020 event will celebrate Robertsdale’s 100th birthday with tables decorated highlighting businesses, people, events and families from Jan. 6, 1921 to Jan. 6, 2021. The Alumni Association awarded 16 scholarships to the Class of 2020.
