Seniors in Robertsdale welcomed back with June Birthday Bash

ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — The George P. Thames Adult Activity Center held its first Birthday Bash in well over a year on Wednesday, June 16 at the center on East Chicago Street in Robertsdale.

Father’s Day was celebrated with goodies for all the men in the group. Lunch with a variety of deserts, including birthday cake was served.

“We just want to say welcome and please come back soon,” said Center Director Amy Ochello. “We’re starting slow, but we’ll be adding activities in the coming months, so there will be something for everybody.”

Only one June birthday celebrant was present as Dorothy Comstock, who was set to celebrate her birthday on June 21, was presented with a special gift bag and serenaded with “Happy Birthday.” Other senior center members and city employees celebrating birthdays in June included Betty Glatfelter, Jerry Rada, Perry Young, Helen Dean, Michael Coburn, Madeline Fernandes, Daniel Gartman, Angie Madden, JimmieLou Ramey, Susan Mitchell, Bill Mills, Sue Fuqua, Michael Baggett, Edna Jerkins, Beth Robinson, Linda Farrell, Martha Pouncey, Tedd Stone, Ryan Thomley, Josephine Walker, Kristine Woosley, Kay Cash, Kyle Harrison, Debbie Sherwood, Madeline Byrd and Sandra Stillman.

Other activities at the center include exercise from 8:30 to 9:30 every Monday and Thursday, Bingo beginning at noon on Tuesdays and trivia at noon on Thursdays. The center will be closed on June 24 and 25 and there will be lunch and a movie shown at noon on June 30.

Daily, weekly, monthly and special events for adults over age 50 are hosted at the center and at the PZK Hall on Alabama 104 in Robertsdale.
