Trash into treasure

Gulf Shores Woman’s Club leads book lending box initiative

Posted

The Gulf Shores Woman’s Club (GSWC) is tuning trash into treasure using damaged and worn real estate magazine boxes. The upcycled boxes are now “Book Boxes” that will be placed throughout Gulf Shores providing free books to the community.

Rhonda Barrett, of Exit Realty, a Gulf Shores Woman’s Club member donated the boxes. The Arts and Culture, Education and Libraries and Environment Committees repaired and painted seven boxes. The committees also contacted local businesses to secure locations. The Thomas B. Norton Library generously donated two boxes of books.

Sue Moreno said five local businesses have given permission for the GSWC to place Book Boxes at their locations. She hopes they will be installed within the next two weeks. The boxes will be located at:

Rouses Market Gulf Shores – 1545 Gulf Shores Parkway, Gulf Shores

Christian Service Center – 317 Dolphin Avenue, Gulf Shores

Docs RV Park – 17595 AL-180, Gulf Shores

Dollar General – 15827 AL-180, Gulf Shores

Solar Nails – 208 West Fort Morgan Road, Gulf Shores

If you would like to have a Box Book placed at your Gulf Shores business or if you would like to donate books, please contact Sue Moreno at (251) 960-1137.
