Alabama Historical Association to meet Blakeley

Posted

Historic Blakeley State Park will host the Alabama Historical Association for its annual fall pilgrimage on Saturday, Oct. 2. Founded in 1947, the Alabama Historical Association is the oldest statewide historical society in Alabama and welcomes anyone who has an interest in our state's amazing history.

The meeting will feature a guided walking tour and boat tour, as well as a roundtable discussion on “Mobile During the Civil War” with noted historians Michael Bailey, Paul Brueske, John S. Sledge, and Paula Lenor Webb.

Historic Blakeley State Park near Spanish Fort resides on 2,000 acres of some of the most biodiverse habitat in North America and contains the sites of Alabama's largest Civil War battle, the important early Alabama town of Blakeley, and Native American settlements dating back thousands of years.

Attendees can register for the event by Sept. 22 online at www.alabamahistory.net. Membership in the AHA is encouraged but not required to attend. For more information on the event, contact the Alabama Historical Association at alabamahistory@gmail.com.
