DAPHNE - On Wednesday, May 19th, Daphne Civic Center welcomed Baldwin County Virtual School graduates to celebrate their hard work over the last four years.

The school’s 113 seniors and their loved ones were in attendance to commemorate the trials and tribulations the students have endured to receive their diploma. Many of the students attended the virtual school since ninth grade. Others enrolled in a hurry last spring as COVID-19 swept across the globe.

BCVS was created in 2013 to offer students who reside in Baldwin County the option to attend school remotely.

Typically, the school graduates about 30 students each year. When the world came to a halt due to Covid-19, BCVS became one of the biggest schools in the state of Alabama. This year’s graduating class is the school’s largest.

Students who made the switch to virtual in their senior year said they were happy with the school.

“The experience for me and my friends was good, it has definitely helped prepare me for college,” said Kathleen Teague, a 2021 BCVS graduate who joined the school her senior year.

Robert-Isaac Gates, who attended all four years of high school at BCVS, said the school teaches real world skills.

“Learning at home is great, it helped my time-management skills a lot,” he said.
