Faye Stewart Schottgen

Faye Stewart Schottgen, age 82, a native of Bay Minette, AL and a longtime resident of Fairhope, AL, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2021. Mrs. Schottgen was a graduate of Baldwin County High School and then went on to graduate from William Carey College with a BA degree in speech and drama. She also attended South Alabama where she received an endorsement in special education. She taught English and speech in Hattiesburg, MS and taught many years at Fairhope High School. She was one of the first special education teachers in Baldwin County. She was a member of Fairhope High School Teachers Hall of Fame. Mrs. Schottgen was an active member in Baldwin County Retired Educators Association and was a member of First Baptist Church of Fairhope. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Sylvester and Rachel Stewart and sister, Ann Paul. She is survived by her husband, Andrew B. Schottgen of Fairhope; sisters, Jeanette Ford of Helena, Al. and Juanita Rabon of Willis, TX; nieces, Julia Eubanks, Michelle Wells, Lynn Fritz, Karen Rodden, Debbie Fillingim, Cheryl Bacon and Teresa Senn; nephews, Alan Ford, Mike Paul, Terry Rabon, Jim Rabon, Rick Shearer and Michael Rodden; numerous great nieces, great nephews and other loving relatives and friends. Special thanks to Julia Eubanks (caregiver), Covenant Care, Shelia Tate (aide), and Dr. Nancy Ann McLeod. Funeral services were held from the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope on Friday, May 7, 2021 at 11:00am. The family received friends from 10:00am until the service time. Interment followed at Memory Gardens of Fairhope. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Baldwin County Retired Educators Association Scholarship Fund, C/O Susan Walton, 6050 Joe Foley Road, Robertsdale, AL 36567.
