In honor of “World Sea Turtle Day,” Linda B. Spangrud, a local resident and an Alabama Sea Turtle Volunteer, will be hosting two separate book signings of her newly released second children’s book, “Miss Sandra and the Turtle People.” Her first book, “Miss Ella and the Turtle People,” came out in 2019. A portion of the profit of the sales of these books will be given to Alabama Coastal Foundation (Share the Beach Turtle Protection Program).

The first book signing will take place on Sunday, June 13 from 2 - 5 p.m. at Lucy’s Retired Surfer’s Bar & Restaurant at OWA in Foley. There will be live music by The Defrosters, a local band playing a variety of genres including Blues, Soul, and Reggae. Don’t miss their new song, “Miss Ella and the Turtle People.” During the book signing hours, Lucy’s Retired Surfer’s Bar & Restaurant will be offering Happy Hour, half-off select appetizers, and a raffle for a $50 gift card.

The second book signing will take place on Friday, June 18 from 3 - 6 p.m. at the Fairhope Brewery in Fairhope. Spangrud is inviting residents and visiting tourists to come hang out and get their copy of “Miss Ella and the Turtle People.”

It has always been Spangrud’s dream to write a children’s book. Now, her dream has come true for the second time. Spangrud writes again about her passion and favorite topic, “coastal living and sea turtle preservation.”

“Miss Sandra” portrays the story of a young turtle volunteer who comes to a life-changing decision about her future and describes how she assists the Gulf Coast with environmental awareness. Miss Sandra, after guidance from her turtle friends, realizes it is more important to follow your dreams and passions. It informs children and families of the appropriate etiquette and rules for turtle protection and proper care of the beach environment, and relays to children and families turtle environmental protection guidelines in a playful storyline with colorful turtle illustrations empathizing the “Leave Only Footprints” initiative. It teaches young readers about the health of the beaches and turtles themselves.

Spangrud encourages everyone to follow their passion.

“Life will be more fulfilling when you do something you really care about!” she says.
