Optimist Club of Perdido Bay hosts annual egg hunt

Posted

Dozens of boys and girls from infant to age 12 gathered at the Lillian Recreational Park the day before Easter to participate in the Optimist Club of Perdido Bay Annual Easter Egg Hunt.

This year, in addition to the chocolate Easter Bunny prizes, some of the searchers found special Bicentennial eggs that entitled him or her to a special plaque with a Bicentennial two dollar bill to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Alabama statehood.

The Optimist Club meets at 8 a.m. every Saturday for breakfast and a program in the Lillian Community Club. Guests are always welcome.

In their effort to “Bring Out the Best in Kids,” the club sponsors a variety of programs for children in the Lillian/Elberta/Perdido Beach areas. More than 30 events are scheduled throughout the year including reading to kindergarten and first grade classes, mentoring, math tutoring, essay and oratorical contests, scholarships for high school seniors, National Flight Academy and Hugh O’Brien Leadership Conference scholarships as well as Just Say “No” to Drugs and Stop Distracted Driving programs.

In addition to the Easter Egg Hunt, the club also sponsors a Fishing Rodeo, Breakfast with Santa, Ice Cream Social at the Elberta Elementary School, provides food at the Special Olympics in Fairhope and for the ARC Thanksgiving dinner for special needs groups, and Christmas gifts for Special Needs classes.

Donations are also made to other organizations which serve those in need in our communities such as Mary’s Shelter Gulf Coast, Baldwin County Boys Ranch, Starfish Special Olympics Swim Team, Baldwin Tech Center, Lillian Perdido Bay Library and Lillian Recreational Park, to name a few.
