A visit with heroes

Girl Scout Troop #8345 recently took a tour of the Bay Minette Fire Department’s Fort Beveridge Fire Station as part of their work on the requirements for earning Safety Awards.

In addition to all the state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, the station also pays homage to the location’s past as home to the National Guard Armory’s Fort Beveridge.

The Armory was named for Bruce Beveridge Jr. who was the only member of the Bay Minette-based 711th Battery B killed during the Korean War. Several framed pictures and memorabilia are scattered throughout the building, honoring Beveridge and the 711th Battery B.
