Big changes coming soon to Orange Beach Elementary

Posted

Baldwin County Schools have been building and expanding schools to meet the county’s growing needs and Orange Beach Elementary is on the list to receive changes. According to Facilities and Maintenance Coordinator Frank Boatwright Jr., the bidding process should start this summer.

Information is limited on the plans and timeline for this project but McKee and Associates was chosen for architectural services in March 2021. According to Boatwright, the plan is to convert the existing café and media center into six classrooms and build a new cafeteria and media center. The budget amount for the project is $4 million.

The Orange Beach City Council passed a resolution May 25 allowing Baldwin County Schools to temporarily locate modular classrooms on city property west of Wilson Boulevard and north of the tennis courts. The resolution includes a term of 18 months with an additional six months if needed.

At this time there is no set date for a groundbreaking or a construction start date.
