Here’s a month full of Halloween happenings to haunt your days

Something spooky this way comes! It’s October and that means spooky season on the Gulf Coast. Check out this list of fun activities for ghosts and goblins of every age to celebrate Halloween.

OWA Island Movie Nights turn “spooky” throughout October, with showings of family-friendly Halloween movies that are sure to thrill and delight the whole family. All movies begin at 7:30 p.m. on the OWA Island. There is no cost to enjoy the event or movie. Just bring a chair, blanket or towel and get ready to enjoy the show.

The fun kicks off on Saturday, Oct. 9 with Frankenweenie (rated PG). Arrive early with your dog in tow to enjoy OWA’s Howl-o-ween Dog Costume Contest. $450 in cash prizes will be distributed among various categories including: OWA Choice, Mr. & Mrs. Howl-o-ween, Most Creative, Best Team Costume, Spookiest and Funniest costumes. Pre-registration for the costume contest will begin at 5 p.m. on the OWA Island, or you can register your pup online at https://visitowa.com. The costume contest is free to participate and begins at 6:30 p.m. with the award ceremony at 7. OWA, in partner with the City of Mobile Animal Shelter, will offer pet adoptions from 5 - 7 p.m. OWA will pay half of the adoption fee for each animal adopted at the event.

Other dates and movies include: Saturday, Oct. 16 showing Beetlejuice (rated PG), Saturday, Oct. 23 showing Casper (rated PG), and Saturday, Oct. 30 showing Hocus Pocus (rated PG).

“No” Carve Pumpkin Decorating will take place at the Foley Public Library (319 E. Laurel Ave.) on Monday, Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The event will take place outside in the library’s front yard. Supplies will be provided, or participants can bring supplies from home.

Looking for some family-friendly events to enjoy with the kids this Halloween? Check out Kid-Friendly Halloween in Downtown, happening weekends in Downtown OWA Oct. 15 - 31. Each week will feature a new and fun activity for the family at the Downtown OWA splash pad and outside of Clash eSports Center from 4 - 7 p.m. while supplies last. Oct. 15 - 17 will feature hand-print spider & pumpkin painting. Oct. 22 - 24 will have Halloween bookmark & pumpkin painting. Finally, Oct. 29 - 31 will allow kids to create their own Frankenstein & pumpkin painting. You can also enjoy trick-or-treating in Downtown OWA from 5 - 7 p.m. while supplies last each weekend. All activities are free.

Don’t forget to head to the OWA Island Amphitheater weekend nights from Oct. 15 - 31 to catch Monsters Got Talent, presented by Seward Studios. Shows take place at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. The Halloween show is age-appropriate and free and features family-friendly live songs and dance. The show is approximately 20 minutes long.

Seeking some thrills and screams this Halloween? Check out OWA’s Terror in the Park, taking place weekends from Oct. 15 - 31, Fridays 5 - 10 p.m., Saturdays 6 - 10 p.m. and Sundays 6 - 9 p.m. You’ll have the chance to face your fears in three socially distanced walkthrough haunts.

Three Scare Zones will be located throughout The Park at OWA, giving you the opportunity to experience three unique and terrifying frights. Located by the Beside Midway Games under the shade structure, experience Zone One: “Invasive,” where your only objective is to make it out alive during an alien invasion. Zone Two: “Die Laughing,” is located by Wacky Waters - just be sure to watch out for the murderous clowns that are loose within the Scare Zone. Finally, at the base of Freedom Flyer, you’ll come to Zone Three: “Zombie Uprising.” Welcome to the post-apocalyptic graveyard, where you find yourself surviving a zombie takeover.

Are you brave enough to ride the Haunted Forest Ride at Baldwin County Heritage Museum in Elberta? Come ride the trail from 6:30 – 9:30 on Oct. 22 – 23 and again on Oct. 29 – 30.

Gulf Shores’ Haunted Hustle is coming to Gulf Place Public Beach on Saturday, Oct. 16. The Witches on Wheels bicycle ride kicks off the evening at 6 p.m. Catch the parade of witches and warlocks on W. Beach Blvd and the Town Green throwing beads and candy to bystanders. Join the Fun Run at 6:30. Cost to participate is $25, and race day registration on Oct. 16 is $30. All participants will receive a finishers medal, goody bag, and event t-shirt. The Haunted Hustle 5K begins at 7 p.m. beginning and ending in front of Gulf Place Town Green.  Registration costs $35, and race day registration is $40. All participants will receive a goody bag and event t-shirt. The Krewe du Cirque Halloween Ball will take place on Saturday, Oct. 16 at the Foley Civic Center (407 E. Laurel Ave.) from 7 - 11 p.m. The event is an adult only, costumes required, Halloween bash that features a live DJ, a costume contest and more. Tickets are $25 per person, BYOB. The Foley Public Library’s Halloween Extravaganza Drive-Thru will take place on Saturday, Oct. 23 from 4 - 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome to drop by the library to take part in this free trick-or-treat event outside the front of the library. You can stay in your vehicle while your children gather Halloween goodies. A special route map is available at the library.

The Copper Kettle Tea Bar is offering the chance for Enrollment for Hogwarts School, or the Harry Potter Tea Event, with bonus potions class for early enrollment. The event takes place on Saturday, Oct. 23 from 6 - 9 p.m. Tickets are $40 per person and include an opening feast and teas, potions (tea) making (with a potential exam on the different ingredients), and lots of memories to be made. Costumes of characters and creatures from the wizarding world are not required but welcome. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 251-609-2832. Foley’s Hometown Halloween is happening on Thursday, Oct. 28 from 5:30 - 8 p.m. in the streets of downtown Foley (S. Alston St. and W. Laurel Ave.) The free event is compliments of the merchants in downtown Foley, city businesses and the city of Foley. There will be a costume contest, bounce houses, hayrides and plenty of opportunities to win treats and prizes at booths.

Ready to do the Time Warp again? Local theater troupe Exit Stage Left is bringing The Rocky Horror Show to the Foley Civic Center (407 E. Laurel Ave.) in October. The first performance will take place on Thursday, Oct. 28 at 7 - 9 p.m., and two performances will take place on both Friday, Oct. 29 and Saturday, Oct. 30, at 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. and 9 - 11 p.m. The Rocky Horror Show is presented in arrangement with Concord Theatricals (www.concordtheatricals.com). Book, Music and Lyrics by Richard O’Brien. The show is rated 18+ due to intense adult themes and strong language.

Grab your broomsticks, the Foley Witches Ride will happen on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 5 p.m. through the streets of downtown Foley. All women are welcome to ride, and both men and women are welcome to support and cheer on the witches as they take flight to raise money for Family Promise and the Summer Backpack Feeding Program. Tickets to ride are $50 and can be purchased at bit.ly/FoleyWitchesRide2021. Spectating the event is free. An After Party for ticketed attendees will take place after the ride in Heritage Park. The 3rd annual Bay Minette Witches Ride will fly at 1 p.m. on Oct. 30 at Blackburn Park in downtown Bay Minette. The day-long event will include arts and crafts vendors, food trucks, the Lifesouth bus, music by Art-T. Register on Eventbrite, $25 for bikes, $35 for golf carts.

Head to Tanger Outlets (2601 S. McKenzie St.) on Sunday, Oct. 31 from 5 - 6:30 p.m. for Trick-or-Treat Tanger Style! Bring your kids to the Family Fun Park in their Halloween costumes to enjoy trick-or-treating and festivities. From free candy, games, a photo booth and dancing to classic Halloween hits, the family-friendly event is fun for all ages. Stores and Shopper Services will provide candy to children 12 and under. Masks are allowed for children only. Look for display decals on entrance doors of participating stores. TANGERCLUB VIP members can check in at the Tanger table to receive a free gift.

Halloween is artsy at the Arts Afire Fall Festival at the Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach. There will be games and a treat trail for kids here on oct. 31 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. as well as 10 local artists and hot glass demos.
