Friends of Army Aviation return to Orange Beach

Have you ever wanted to fly in an Army helicopter? Imagine flying high above Orange Beach with the doors open. You will have a chance at this unique experience June 2-3 when The Friends of Army Aviation return to Orange Beach with a UH-1H Iroquois, commonly known as the “Huey.”

According to The Museum of Flight, “the “Huey” was a multipurpose utility helicopter famous for its widespread use during the Vietnam War. The aircraft were primarily for troop and cargo transport, medical evacuations and aerial attack. Hueys have also been used in civilian roles such as firefighting, humanitarian aid efforts, research operations and search and rescue duties.”

The Friends of Army Aviation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to presenting the Army Aviation story to the American people through static displays of legacy Army aircraft and associated ride program. Their mission is to educate the public on the contributions Army Aviation has provided to the battlefield and support the families of soldiers who have given the ultimate in support of freedom. The group also works to maintain, restore and preserve authentic legacy Army aircraft used in combat operations. The last and possibly one of the most important missions is to inspire young people to consider aviation as a career and to honor those soldiers serving past and present.

Tickets are on sale now for the two-day event at The Wharf. All children under the age of 16 must ride with a parents or guardian. Children 16-17 may ride with a parent or guardian’s written permission. Tickets can be purchased by visiting friendsofaviation.org/foaa-events. Tickets are $70 per person.
