Jack Edwards National Airport receives two CARES Act Grants

Posted

Jack Edwards National Airport is the recipient of two CARES Act grants from the Federal Aviation Administration. During the May 24 regular council meeting, the mayor and council voted unanimously to pass two resolutions authorizing Mayor Robert Craft to execute grant agreements between the Airport Authority, the U.S. Department of Transportation and the FAA.

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, signed into law in March 2020, included $10 billion in funds to be awarded as economic relief to eligible U.S. airports affected by the prevention of, preparation for and responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. Jack Edwards will receive $23,000 to reimburse various operational expenses. The grant is 100% FAA funded and no matching funds are required.

The CARES Act also provides funds to increase the federal share to 100% for the Airport Improvement Program and to supplement discretionary grants already planned for fiscal year 2020.

The second grant from the FAA is for pavement maintenance. The funds will be used to complete crack sealing on taxiway A, the general aviation apron and runways 17-35. The $166,677 grant is 100% FAA funded and no matching funds are required.
