Nicholas Scheer named Gulf Shores Firefighter of the Quarter

Posted

Gulf Shores Fire Chief Mark Sealy announced Lt. Nicholas Scheer as Firefighter of the Quarter for the third quarter during the Gulf Shores City Council meeting Oct. 11.

Sealy took a few moments to speak regarding his personal interactions with Scheer over the last year before reading the proclamation to the Council.

“In the year that I have known Nick I have been thoroughly impressed with his desire to serve the city and his dedication to what we do. I remember our one-on-one interview and one of his goals was to serve wherever he was placed, and I have found that to be very true. He is very deserving of this award,” Sealy said.

The proclamation read:

“Scheer began his career with Gulf Shores Fire Rescue in 2006 and since his hiring, he has had an exemplary career. He is known for his hard work, positive attitude, and willingness to do all the extra things in order to make our department successful.

Scheer accepted the task of SCBA maintenance with great enthusiasm. He successfully developed and managed the department’s SCBA inventory and has since been placed in charge of the department’s training program. He spends countless hours keeping up with training hours and ensuring that all department members are current and up-to-date with all training that is required to maintain their certification.

He has also undertaken several research projects to develop best practice strategies for our department such as high-rise packs, hose lays, nozzles and department gear configuration. In addition to these duties, Scheer is the Station 1 manager and has the responsibility of all station maintenance and upkeep. He performs all tasks with enthusiasm and consistently displays the characteristics of the department’s core values.

Scheer’s actions are a testament to his character and dedication to those around him. Words and awards cannot adequately represent the appreciation of the city of Gulf Shores or the Gulf Shores Fire Rescue Department.”

After reading the proclamation, Sealy also told the City Council about how Scheer serves the community in his off time as well.

“I’d also like to mention that Scheer is also the fire chief in the town of Elberta and he has recently taken on another task in his spare time to help build smoker cooking trailers for our association to raise money for that entity as well,” Sealy said.
