BAY MINETTE — During the first week of school, Andy Citrin Injury Attorney’s donated nearly 700 backpacks at two schools in the Bay Minette area of Baldwin County as part of its Project Backpack for the 2021-2022 school year.
Project Backpack is the law firm’s annual give-back event which provides backpacks filled with essential school supplies to students at chosen K-5 public schools in the area.
This year’s Project Backpack “Back to School” event supplied backpacks to Delta Elementary and Pine Grove Elementary in the Bay Minette area, along with Leinkauf Elementary and Hall Elementary in Mobile.
After delivering 260 backpacks to Delta Elementary on Wednesday, Aug. 11, it was a pep rally type atmosphere at Pine Grove Elementary on Friday, Aug. 13, complete with Baldwin County High cheerleaders, members of the Tigerettes dance crew and the Tiger Marching Band joining Citrin and his team, members of the Pine Grove faculty and staff and Baldwin County Schools Superintendent Eddie Tyler and members of his staff to make a special delivery of backpacks to the fifth-grade class. A total of 425 backpacks schoolwide were delivered on Friday.
“We are so proud to be here for you and want each and every one of you to know that we care about this community and we care about you,” Citrin said. “You are the future of the city of Bay Minette. You are the future of Baldwin County. You are the future of the state of Alabama, and you are the future of the United States of America.”

The law firm partnered with seven schools across Alabama and Mississippi to give away a total of 4,000 backpacks stuffed with pencils, crayons, notebooks, binders, glue sticks and other essential supplies ensuring that students have the tools they need to succeed in the new school year.
“We are so excited to bring Project Backpack back to Alabama,” Citrin said. “We have the honor of donating 4,000 backpacks to 4,000 young smiling faces. These students are our future, and my law firm is committed to making sure they have the resources available to succeed. We are blessed with the opportunity to add seven more schools to our Project Backpack initiative, and I plan to keep growing Project Backpack until my law firm has reached every young child across the Alabama and Mississippi Gulf Coast.”
Schools were chosen based on the percentage of enrollment with the most need. Roughly one in four Alabama children live in poverty, compared to one in three kids in Mississippi. The law firm believes that no child should go without the school supplies they need because of circumstances beyond their control.
“This is a shining example of what is great about Baldwin County,” Tyler said. “We can’t say enough how much we appreciate Mr. Citrin and his team for bringing this program back again this year and for all they are doing to support schools in Baldwin County.”
Also included in the backpack this year was a little something for the adults. Every parent or guardian received a refrigerator magnet with either the Mobile or Baldwin County School District calendar for easy access to upcoming school events and holidays.
“We started Project Backpack to give students a winning edge for their upcoming school year,” Citrin said. “When students have what they need to thrive, our communities win, too.”
