CBEF to host Crawfish and Cornhole event fundraiser

LOXLEY, Alabama — The Central Baldwin Education Foundation will host its first Crawfish & Cornhole event fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 22 at Loxley Municipal Park.

“As with any event we host all the money we raise goes to grant for teachers and scholarships for students in the Central Baldwin feeder pattern,” said CBEF representative Chris Kerby.

Every year for the past several years, Kerby said, CBEF hosts the annual Honeybee Festival and 5K run in Robertsdale which is the group’s signature fundraiser every year.

“We’re really hoping to make this another signature fundraising event for us,” Kerby said. “This is our first year and we don’t yet know what kind of turnout we’re going to have, but there has been a lot of interest in this event, so we’re really looking to make this an annual event.”

While the annual Baldwin County Strawberry Festival has been cancelled the last two years, Kerby said, the event will fit nicely in the future between the Strawberry Festival and the end of the school year.

“We felt like May is just a great time to do something like this,” he said. “It’s about a month after the Strawberry Festival, so it won’t interfere with that and about a week before the end of the school year before families scatter for vacation.”

Registration for the cornhole tournament will be held beginning at 9 a.m. with the tournament set to begin at 10 a.m. There is a $40 entry fee for each two-player team.

The tournament will be a nationally sanctioned event, Kerby said, and could draw teams from all over.

“Teams can earn points with national championship implications, so it could be very competitive,” he said.

Kerby said a local cook will be supplying 1,000 pounds of crawfish at a cost of $20 per flat. Beverages will also be available.

The Central Baldwin Education Foundation was organized in 2008 to encourage academic excellence in the Central Baldwin area schools by providing funding which is not available through traditional local, state or federal sources.

The Foundation provides opportunities for teachers and staff to develop innovative projects through grants; to invest in programs and enrichment activities that have a positive impact on student success; to encourage a continued interest in and support of public education through a network of businesses, individual and community involvement; and to seek and cultivate funding sources for educational excellence.

CBEF serves the South Baldwin Center for Technology, Robertsdale High School, Central Baldwin Middle School and five feeder elementary schools, including Elsanor, Rosinton, Loxley, Silverhill and Robertsdale.
