Donations being taken after Foley woman loses home to fire

FOLEY - On the morning of Thursday, June 17, a home located in the Arbor Walk subdivision in Foley was lost due to a fire. The homeowner was at work at the time of the incident. Seven dogs were within the home. All were rescued, though one went missing after being taken from the home. The six other dogs were taken to Dykes Veterinary Clinic to be treated for smoke inhalation and eye burns. Anyone who sees a brown brindle plot hound mix in the Foley area near the intersection of County Roads 12 and 65 is asked to call/text 251-228-1221. His name is Briggs.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, though as of Friday, June 18, the Foley Fire Department does not suspect any foul play was involved. The house has been deemed as a loss.

Neighbors have taken to Facebook to ask for donations for the homeowner, who lost everything in the fire. Items being requested include size 2X women’s shirts, women’s size 40 waist pants, size 9 women’s shoes, monetary donations for recovery efforts, and any monetary donations to help pay for the dogs’ veterinary bills. A neighbor, Heather Jackson, is coordinating a supply drop off. For more information, search for Heather Jackson and/or Leslie Hilton on Facebook. Monetary donations can be made via Venmo @HeatherJackson85. To make a donation towards the vet bills, call Dykes Veterinary Clinic at 251-943-3211 and let them know the money is for the fire patients. Once the dogs are released, temporary fosters will be needed.
