FOLEY - Along with the library’s many monthly programs, the Foley Public Library will be having two special programs in August 2021.
On Tuesday, Aug. 10 at 10 a.m., Coletta Stejskal Bailey will give a presentation, “Know Your Laces,” in the upstairs meeting room of the library. Bailey will identify a variety of “hand-made laces” - all laces are not crochet. If you are unsure if your lace is Battenberg, Crochet, Knitted, or Needle lace, come to this presentation.
Lace, by definition, is a thread or threads creating positive and negative spaces. Bailey will bring many examples to include Cutwork or Drawn Thread, Battenberg Lace (Tape Lace,) Bobbin Lace, Crochet Lace, Irish Crochet Lace, Filet or Lacis Lace, Knitted Lace and Knotted Lace. If you have a piece of lace or doily and are not sure what it is, please bring it to this presentation for identification.
Seating is limited and a reservation will be required to attend Bailey’s presentation. Please call the library at 251-943-7665 to reserve a spot.
On Friday, Aug. 13, 4 - 5 p.m., Foley Library will have a come and go event – “Be French, Be Lucky!” Did you know that the number thirteen was once considered lucky in France? It appeared on postcards and charms as a symbol of good luck.
Join us in the upstairs meeting room for games, prizes and treats from France. Play a French game, learn some French words, be Mona Lisa for a photo and try some French pastries. Each attendee will be entered in the drawing for a door prize, too. Parents are asked to stay with their children at this come and go program. No reservation is required.
