ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — Three students from Robertsdale High School have placed in the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest. Students selected for first place will advance to compete at the state level in Montgomery.

“We typically submit art to (the Elberta VFW competition),” said RHS art instructor Bryant Baggett, “but since other local auxiliary’s did not have any participation, our students artwork was loaned to them and will serve as that Auxiliary’s first place winners.”

RHS student Jessalyn Ellison of Robertsdale will represent the Bay Minette VFW for artwork entitled “Navy Potter,” while Peyton Salvaggio of Robertsdale will represent the Theodor VFW for artwork entitled “Young Grandpa in the Service.”

Camilla Stricklin of Silverhill placed second among the Elberta VFW winners for artwork entitled “Child and Parent Reunion.” Emily Powers of Elberta High School finished first and will represent the Elberta VFW for artwork entitled “Family portraits in branches of service.” Kara Decker of Fairhope High School finished third with her artwork entitled “Eagle/National Anthem.”

Award ceremonies at the Elberta VFW were held Saturday, April 24.
