Summerdale finalizes plans for Town Clean Up Day

Posted

SUMMERDALE - Earlier this year, the Town of Summerdale began planning for a Town Clean Up Day in order to clean out town ditches, streets, and to give citizens easy access to ways to clean up their homes and yards. The clean up effort will take place on Saturday, Sept. 18, in accordance with National Clean Up Day. The clean up will last from 8 a.m. - noon, with a hot dog lunch provided by the town. Shred-It will also be onsite at Pioneer Park from 10 a.m. - noon.

“We’ve got three dumpsters reserved for Sept. 18 and we’ll place them around town where it’ll be convenient for people of Summerdale to clean out their stuff they don’t want,” said Mayor David Wilson. “We’ll also have the Public Works Department going around town limits with a truck to pick up furniture and debris on the side of the road.” He encourages town residents to place any items they’d like to clear out of their home or yards by the road on Sept. 18 to be picked up. If the truck is unable to finish picking up all items on Saturday, he says efforts will resume the following Monday.

“This will be for debris and for household items like couches and such, it’s for anything,” Wilson said. “This will be a benefit to the citizens of Summerdale, and help to further clean up our town.”

The town is currently working with local churches and Summerdale School to create volunteer teams to clean out ditches around town. For more information, follow the town on Facebook or visit www.summerdaleal.com.
