SPANISH FORT, Ala. — Spanish Fort (52-4) defeated neighboring and area rival Daphne 3-1 (5-19, 24-26, 25-14, 25-16) Tuesday night at SFHS. Both teams advance to the single-elimination Class 6A South Regionals in Montgomery this weekend.
Savannah Lee led the Toros with 32 kills and 32 digs while Carley Hamric had 27 kills and three blocks. Reilly Vought set for 71 assists with 13 digs, three blocks, seven kills and five service aces. Defensive specialists Taylor Fontenelle led the SF defense with 36 digs.
The defending state champion Toros will face Area 6 runner up Wetumpka in the first round. Daphne will take on Area 6 winner Benjamin Russell.
The Trojans were led by Sydney Omtvedt with 21 kills and 36 digs, Bri Turner had 22 kills, Natalie Omtvedt had 23 kills and Haleigh Houser had 73 assists.
Area 1's Saraland matches up with Stanhope-Elmore while runner up Blount plays Chilton County. Area 3 winner Dothan meets Area5 runner up Chelsea and Area 3 runner up Northview takes on Chelsea.
In Class 3A Area 1 winner and 14-time defending state 3A champion Bayside Academy will play Area 5 runner up Prattville Christian while Area 1 runner up Cottage Hill will meet Area 5 winner Montgomery Academy.
In Class 7A, Area 2 winner and defending state champion McGill-Toolen Catholic faces Smiths Station while Area 2 runner up Murphy will take on Auburn.
Area 1 winner Alma Bryant coached by former Baldwin County High Hall of Famer Kelly Hargett will play Area 3 runner up Enterprise. Area 3 winner Enterprise takes on Baker.
