David Edmund Hare


David Edmund Hare, age 84 went peacefully home to be with the Lord on May 6, 2020, surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Gatewood, Alabama and was a lifelong resident. Mr. Hare was preceded in death by his parents, the late Vernon and Blanche Oglesby Allen. After Blanche's untimely death, Edmund was lovingly adopted by the late William Edward and Thettie Mae Hare at an early age. He is also preceded in death by his sister Lois Busey and brothers-in-law Nick Busey, Leon Patrick, Ken Kosbiel and Dee Rainey, brothers- and sisters-in-law Harold and Carol Marty and Don and Elwanda Carlisle. Edmund is survived by the love of his life, his wife of nearly 63 years, Evelyn and his beloved daughter Debbie Homan and son-in-law Earl Homan, sisters Thelma Patrick and Nancy Kosbiel, Brothers Jack Allen (Mary), Thomas Allen (Carolyn) and sister-in-law Irma Rainey, special nieces, nephews, cousins and many other family members. Edmund graduated from Baldwin County high school in 1954, and retired from Monsanto corporation in 1993. He served in the Alabama and Florida National Guard. Edmund was a wonderful husband, father and father-in-law and was always there for his family. Edmund was a faithful member of Hamilton Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and taught the Senior Men's Sunday School class. He was a great mentor to the youth as well as adults. Edmund was grateful for the years he was active with Styx River, Rosinton and later Gateswood Fire Departments. He was a big inspiration in the organization of Gatewood Fire Department, making it what it is today and still remained as a community member.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM with a graveside service with a viewing at 1:30 at New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family would like to express their appreciation to Kindred Hospice, Dr. Robert Lokey and also Elizabeth. Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made to Hamilton Baptist Church building fund or New Hope Cemetery, in lieu of flowers.
