• Daphne wins 3-1 in championship showdown with Fairhope, Pirates take JV title with 7-0 win over the Trojans

DAPHNE — After taking an extra-inning loss to the Pirates last week, the Trojans handed Fairhope their first loss of the season in claiming a 3-1 win Saturday in Daphne’s 18th Jubilee Shootout Softball Tournament.

Daphne (13-2) went 7-0 at Al Trione Park to earn the championship trophy, their third in the event’s 18 seasons. Makenna Pierce (6-1) got the win in the final. Kennedy Cronan hit a two-run homer in the third inning with Pierce on first base.

The Pirates got a run back in the fourth inning when Madison Koger drove in Taylor Ledrew on a fielder’s choice. Lauren Ledbetter’s fielder’s choice later scored Madison Miles for Daphne’s third run. The game was called for time after the fifth inning. Fairhope (13-1-1) also took a pool-play tie with Oak Mountain.

The Trojans also defeated Mobile Christian 7-1, Oak Mountain 6-0, Mary G. Montgomery 5-4, Foley 11-0, Dothan 5-1, and Rehobeth 4-1.

For the tournament, Cronan was 11-19 with four doubles, three homers, seven runs scored, and 12 RBIs. Makenna Pierce went 8-18 with a home run, five runs scored, and nine RBIs. Aspyn Godwin added six hits with a home run and seven runs scored, and Karsen Pierce added six hits with a home run and four runs scored.

Title-game winner Makenna Pierce was 4-0 in the tournament. She also had a no-hitter during 19 overall innings with 15 strikeouts, seven walks, and allowing only three hits. Reagan Watkins (5-1) was 2-0 in the tournament pitching 12 innings with 26 strikeouts, seven walks, and allowing only five hits. Karsen Pierce (2-0) was 1-0 in the tournament pitching six innings, with nine strikeouts, three walks, and five hits.

Watkins now has 67 strikeouts for the year, while Makenna Pierce has 46.

Daphne is now 13-2 overall and 2-0 in Area play. Their next game is Thursday, March 16th at home against Baldwin County High School.

In the Jubilee Shootout’s JV Division, the Pirates took the 2017 title with 7-0 win over the Trojans.

Makenna Pierce threw a no-hitter, struck out nine, and walked three. Godwin went 2-4 with a grand slam, four RBIs, and three runs scored. Claire Mackin went 2-3 with a double and two RBIs, Madison Miles went 2-2 with a double, a walk, and two runs scored.

Daphne 4, Robertsdale 0

Reagan Watkins threw a no-hitter, struck out 12, and walked one. Kennedy Cronan went 2-3 with a solo homer and 2 runs scored. Laney Cox and Madison Miles each had RBI singles and Watkins added an RBI double.

Fairhope 10, McGill-Toolen Catholic 0

The Pirates extended their record to 10-0 behind the pitching of Emma Kropp. Offensively, Fairhope scored early with two runs in the first inning. Jaden Morace led off with a single and later scored on a double by Sam Yarbrough. In the third the Pirates exploded with eight runs Yarbrough led off with a solo homerun and came to the plate again in the 3rd inning for a second time hitting another home run for a total of four RBI's in the inning. The Fairhope junior tied an Alabama High School Athletic Association state record for two homers in the same inning. Taylor Ledrew's walk off double to score Yarbrough from second sealed the 10-run win for Kropp who had a perfect game through five innings.

Robertsdale 5, Saraland 4

Robertsdale defeated Saraland 5-4. McKenzie Hardy was the winning pitcher for the Golden Bears and Daizee Finley picked up the save in relief. Lauren Terrell was 2-for-3 at the plate for the RHS offense while Jordyn Butts and Annaleigh Ash added good efforts on defense.
