SPANISH FORT, Ala. — Trailing 43-41, Kennedy Cronan hit a last-second 3-pointer for Daphne in a 44-43 Class 6A, Area 2 victory over neighboring rival Spanish Fort Friday night. The Trojans improved to 20-4 overall with their 18th consecutive win and improved to 7-0 in Area 2 competition.
"It was a big win, anytime you beat Spanish Fort, it's a big win," said Daphne coach Mason Dunn. "I'm proud of my team, they played hard for four quarter and that's all that I can ever ask of them. It was an incredible atmosphere tonight. We knew it was going to be like this. The sportsmanship for Spanish Fort and Daphne was amazing, it was all about basketball."
The No. 10 ranked Trojans clinched the regular-season, area title to host the Area 2 tournament next week. Jennifer Darby led Daphne with 11 points, Cronan finished with nine points and Tia Pickett added seven.
The Toros were led by Rose Gul’s game-high 15 points and Olivia Howard with 12.
