FOLEY – Beulah Heights residents will have a chance to discuss city plans for drainage and other issues at a public meeting Thursday, July 20.

The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. in  City Council Chambers at Foley City Hall.

Leslie Gahagan, city environmental director, said the meeting will allow residents and Foley officials to go over plans for issues such as drainage and sewage disposal in the community.

“We’re going to be having a public information meeting on the stormwater drainage systems,” Gahagan said. “We’re looking for both feedback and then we’ll also be assessing our septic to sewer program that we're planning on implementing.”

Mayor Ralph Hellmich said city officials have been working on improvements in the area and are making plans for additional work.

“That particular area over there never had a real organized drainage system,” Hellmich said. “We've done a lot of work over there with retention and fixed about 600 acres, but there's still a lot where it's kind of dysfunctional. This will help us identify the best way to accomplish that and also, possibly with our septic tank program, to identify a way to help citizens over there get on the sewer system.”

He said the program will help other areas in addition to Beulah Heights.

“We're working on that there and we also want to expand that to other areas of Foley,” Hellmich said. “That would benefit us and our neighbors downstream.”
