• Leopards’ offense too much to contain for Golden Bears

ROBERTSDALE, Ala.— In week one, Robertsdale lost to a tough Foley Lions team. Friday, the Golden Bears hoped to recover from their mistakes and win at home against the Blount Leopards. That did not go according to plan as the Leopards brought a convincing performance to Robertsdale with a 49-10 win.

Blount starting quarterback and Florida Gators commit, Kadarius Toney, did not play against the Robertsdale Golden Bears due to a coaching decision. That decision did not factor against the Leopards as Robertsdale could not control second-string QB, Cameron Burroughs. The Leopards, with Burroughs, accounted for over 650 total yards of offense.

The game started out with a three-and-out series from the Golden Bears’ offense. In the first possession for Blount, Burroughs ran for 23 yards followed by a 45-yard touchdown from Trajan Pugh.

On the next drive for Robertsdale, the Bears drove the ball down the field but a pass by Bears QB Nate Krebs was intercepted in the end zone by Zsajuan Powe. The Leopards took advantage of the Golden Bears’ turnover and Burroughs threw a 60-yard touchdown to LeBarron Jones (his first of two TDs) to make the score 14-0 with 7:34 left in the 1st quarter.

Robertsdale countered with a 10-yard reception byEvan Robertson and a 39-yard reception from Shelton Dean. The Bears did add a field goal to make the score 14-3.

The Bears made the game interesting with an interception returned for a touchdown by Hunter Monte to make the score 14-10. The Leopards came back with a 39-yard touchdown run from Josh Norwood to end the 1st quarter with a 21-10 score.

After the first quarter, the Bears could not keep up performance wise. Blount’s Lamarcus McCants had a 17-yard TD run and Trajan Pugh a seven-yard TD run before the half. Jamarcus Powe had a 51-yard catch to set up the last score to make it 35-10 going to into halftime.

After halftime, Jamarcus Powe added a 40-yard touchdown reception from Burroughs. Jones then scored again with a 30-yard reception in the 3rd quarter.

In the 4th quarter, both teams had their backups in and the Golden Bears were being frustrated with late hits and failed conversions

After the game, Robertsdale head coach Brian Campbell understood the tough start but said that they have to look to the positives of the situation in order to turn their season around.

The Bears (0-2) will host the Alma Bryant Hurricanes (1-1) next (Sept. 2).
