Burton C. Beck Sr., Ed.D. passed away peacefully in his home on Dec. 12, 2016.

Son of the late Rankin E. Beck and Myrtle Coleman Beck, Dr. Beck was born on Oct. 19, 1940, in Bay Springs, Florida.

Dr. Beck graduated from Ernest Ward High School in Walnut Hill, Florida. He earned degrees from Troy State University, Auburn University and the University of Southern Mississippi.

Dean Beck valued his role as an educator and the position to help people improve their quality of life through access to higher education. Following his retirement from Faulkner State Community College, Burt enjoyed his second career as a Realtor with Century 21 Meyer Real Estate in Gulf Shores, Alabama. He simply enjoyed helping people.

Beloved husband of Terrie Frederic Beck, his wife of 46 years, Burt is father to Robin B. Meredith and Burton C. Beck Jr., Ph.D. He is grandfather to Joseph S. Meredith (Cidney); and great-grandfather to Elijah James Meredith and Claire Millay Meredith.

Burt is also survived by his sister, Nila Kimmons; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Stephen E. Beck, Ellis G. Beck, O. Gene Beck; and a sister, Nina Weeks.

Burt was a generous, loving family man and friend.

To continue his legacy of contributing to humanity, his family donated his body to medical science.

The family will honor him with a celebration of life at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to a college or charity of your choice.
