City grants right-of-way deed for Fairground Road

ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — At its meeting on Monday, Feb. 19, the Robertsdale City Council paved the way for extending Fairground Road to the Baldwin Beach Express by voting to grant a right-of-way deed for the property.

According to the deed, the city voted to extend the right-of-way from Alabama 59 east, adding from 10 feet up to 30 feet to even the right-of-way along the road out to the Baldwin Beach Express.

By doing so, said Mayor Charles Murphy, it will allow the city to pave a portion of Fairground Road, which extends from the intersection of Adams Drive/Pearson Street, out to the Beach Express, a distance of approximately 1.4 miles.

In other business Monday, the council approved an ABC License for St. Patrick Parish’s annual Leprechaun Chase, which will be held Sunday, March 11, and Wild Irish Night, which will be Saturday, March 17 at St. Patrick Church, 23070 Alabama 59 N., Robertsdale.

The Leprechaun Chase will kick off St. Patrick School’s Wild Irish Week.

Entry fees and pre-registration for 10K and 5K races, plus a 2-mile Color Fun Run/Walk is $25 per race for adults; $20 for children 12 and under. Baldwin County Catholic students and staff get an additional $5 discount.

Register by mail (entries should be postmarked by March 3) or in person at McCoy Outdoor, Run-N-Tri or Fleet Feet in Mobile, or Running Wild in Fairhope until noon March 8.

Participants registered by Feb. 20 will be guaranteed a T-shirt on race day, T-shirts for those registered after Feb. 20 will be available while supplies last. Race day registration is $30 for adults, $25 for children and will be held from 6:30 to 7:45 a.m. at St. Patrick School.

Races begin at 8 a.m., along with a race party, continuing until 1:30 p.m., including free givaways, arts & crafts sale, food and live music.

Prizes will be awarded for the top 3 male and female finishers in 10K and 5K, along with Masters, Grandmasters and Senior Grandmasters and age groups from under 9 to 75-99. At its meeting Feb. 5, the council approved the use of the PZK and the city’s digital billboard to promote the Team Tenley 5K, which will be held May 12; and approved the Robertsdale Elementary Bear Crawl which will be held April 21.

The council also voted Feb. 19 to approve the purchase of an RTV for the city’s Utilities Department.
